Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Coors Field Nugget Ten - Anticipation

Rockies did not impress me yesterday. Pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez was doing fine until about the fifth inning, and then seemed to lose his confidence, or something. We have usually played well against the Phillies, so I'm certainly hoping things will go better from here on in.

Today in Denver, it's cold and rainy. I may duck out for a walk, I have gear which should keep me reasonably warm and dry. But the bad news is that this weather is likely to continue, and Saturday, for our first game at Coors Field, the temps are likely be be at freezing or slightly below. Hard to tell if that will be an advantage or not.

Local papers don't comment yet on whether the Rox will schedule a scrimmage for Friday, to gain acclimation ro playing in the cold. It might put them up on the Phillies if they could manage a workout.

Grounds crew might have some views on that! ;-)

I have a potential 14 hour shift on Saturday. The lobby doors will open about 9:30, to enable people who need to unravel ticket problems to come in to discuss things with the ticket staff that handles stuff like that. With a 7:30 pm first pitch, and the liklihood that I will need to stay to end of game - it will be a very long, and probably cold, day. I can never be 100% confident that my duties will not send me out to the concourse for an errand or two during the game.

So I'll spend the next couple of days with a small knot at the pit of my stomach, part pleasure in returning to the stadium, part reluctance to face the weather, part hope that my team will acquit itself on the national stage.
