Woodstock's Blog
Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Checking in

Not much to say tonight, but my thoughts have been returning to this blog off and on, and I realized I was in the mood for a brief comment or two, along with an update.

Some of my readers know, I think, that Mr Woodstock died on Mar 11. Even though it wasn't unexpected, I was nevertheless thunderstruck for a day or two, and a whirl of activity seems to grab you at times like that, with plans and meetings, phone calls and emails.

I've checked back on my blog entries and I see that my first comment about the situation was a very brief entry in February of 2009. By that time, I was already feeling the weight of the situation, to the point that I wanted to tell a world full of strangers about it. More than a few good friends were in my audience then, I know that!

The time span between that entry and this one should give you an idea of what a long hard road it was.

So what's going on now, you may ask?

I've kept up with my seasonal tax accounting work. Having a job means a built in incentive for showers, brushing teeth, packing lunches, keeping contact with a wider world. That's healthy.

I'm eagerly awaiting opening day at Coors Field. 3-4 hours of update training this coming Saturday - pick up uniforms, see old friends, get work assignments for the months of April and May. And clocking in the morning of April 9 for the home opener.

Our resident back yard bunny is still around. I regularly see tracks in the snow, and occasionally catch a brief glimpse of my resourceful little neighbor.

My two cats are adjusting to life with only one human housemate. It was not a popular development for a few weeks, but I'm gaining more soothing lap time as the days go by. Mr W would not be surprised if he knew that I have begun to surf shelter websites, thinking about a third cat. We'll have to see how that goes, I don't think I'll rush into anything. One plus about no-kill shelters for someone like me is that I probably have all the time I need to make a choice about expanding the family.

I still can read in print only sporadically. I check the daily paper for my favorite puzzles and one or two comic strips. I depend on NPR in the mornings, and the soporific drone of BBC World Service as bedtime nears for my news. I do regularly enjoy books on audio as I take walks in the early evenings.

Even though I know only a small number of you on a face to face basis, your cyber friendship means more to me than I could possible express. Thanks!
