Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Coors Field Nugget Four - a night to remember

I know I've never seen another inning like it. With two out in the bottom of the eighth last night, the Rockies offense went nuts. The team batted around twice with 13 hits, had 11 straight hits, scored 12 runs, and raised opposing Cubs pitcher Andrew Cashner's ERA by almost two points. The final score was 17-2, and several team records and at least one MLB record were overturned.

I continue to be bemused at what working at the stadium does to my attitude about the games. With a win solidly in the books, and two out, hoping to get home where my visiting daughter and her children were waiting for me, I found myself thinking: "Can't someone please strike out?"

Ian Stewart finally did, after the Rockies had raised the score to a final 17-2.

One of my co workers pays close attention to the working patterns of most of the NL umpires, and as Stewart stood at the plate, he commented that the umpire was tired too, at least one strike would have been dubbed a ball had the pitch come in the first inning.

Evenings when the Cubs are in town, especially Friday evenings when the games start after happy hour, are not anticipated with very much pleasure by Coors Field employees. Last night, however, we found a sure fire method to get them all to just shut up, already.

How sweet it was!
