Books and other stuff I feel like discussing

By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat.

Coors Field Nugget Three - Interleague play

Scheduled regular season games between National and American League baseball teams remains an unpopular concept to baseball purists. For several years, I was one of the skeptical ones. I'm still not completely sure it's a good idea, BUT -

It sells tickets. The Detroit Tigers were at Coors Field for three games this past weekend. Seats sold were a healthy total on Friday; Saturday was almost a sellout; and yesterday we did sell out. As the national anthem was being sung the only tickets remaining were in the $60 range, with obstructed views, and were scattered one seat here, one seat there, with no opportunity for groups to sit together. The Rockies took two of three, with impressive performances both at the plate and on the mound on Friday and Saturday. Yesterday afternoon with Tiger ace Justin Verlander pitching, was the only time the Rockies seemed ill at ease against their AL opponents.

All Rockies fans are mystified; and no one really understands problems are facing last year's pitching star Ubaldo Jimenez. However, on Saturday he pitched his second winning game, the first for the season at Coors Field. And not only was he the winning pitcher, in the second inning he connected for a hit, driving in two runs, and provided the winning margin at the plate to go along with his victory on the mound.

A movie script writer couldn't have come up with better.

His appealing persona still has Rockies fans on his side, most of the comments I hear are puzzled, not hostile. So Saturday was a good day all the way around.
