Woodstock's Blog Books and other stuff I feel like discussing By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat. |

2011-07-29 6:30 AM Sailing Along I'm somewhere in the North Atlantic. At precisely noon, ship's time, the captain will interrupt the Elderhostel study leader to give us precise locations in four languages. If you're interested, I can update you later, but of course it will be in latitude and longitude measurements, and by the time I get to a computer terminal it will no longer be accurate.
I'm on my way to the UK on the Queen Mary 2, the Elderhostel study topic is "The Spying Game" all about Kim Philby and his ilk. It's fascinating, a part of the history of the Western democracies that has always intrigued me. The ship is quite grand, but the encroaching casual style of world wide popular culture is trying to take over. I kind of like the more sedate "required" dress, but can see that trying to hold back the tide of shorts, flip flops, spaghetti straps and bare legs will probably be futile in the long run. Our afternoons are free - I've got a massage on the bill for this afternoon. And I just love the calm sailing along. I've taken long walks on the deck three times a day (three laps is a mile) Listening to Christopher Hitchens autobiography as I walk. Based on one or two other trips at sea, I won't even mind if it gets stormy. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
