Woodstock's Blog Books and other stuff I feel like discussing By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat. |

2012-06-02 6:29 PM Coors Field Nugget Three - Green Shoes Colorado Rockies colors are black and purple. The promotions crew dresses for each game in coordinated combinations of those colors, sometimes with long pants, sometime with shorts, a variety of different styles of shirt, but always with black shoes.
The promotions department is responsible for a wide variety of activities, giveaways, contests, enthusiasm booster events which begin a couple of hours before the game and extend to the late innings. They work hard, very hard. About a week ago, just before the Astros came to town, one of the young women on the crew goofed up somehow getting dressed for work, and arrived wearing bright green shoes. They are a pale color, almost flourescent. She had no other shoes to change into, and incurred a financial penalty for being out of uniform. After a long distressing series of disappointing games on the road, the Rockies won that night. The rest of the promotions crew insisted that she wear those shoes again, and pitched in to cover her daily penalty. She wore them for five days, and we won five in a row - the fifth game against our nemesis, the Dodgers. The Dodgers won this afternoon, so she can return to black shoes tomorrow. Just one more instance of the myriad of superstitions which are never far away when one is at a baseball stadium. Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
