Woodstock's Blog Books and other stuff I feel like discussing By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat. |

2012-06-29 10:02 PM Coors Field Nugget Four - a stroll in the park My assignment in the reception lobby usually keeps me inside. I like the gig, I've said that many times. I enjoy the chances to tell stories about what my ballpark experiences involve. But tonight, I got out on the concourse.
A man and his granddaughter had been in the lobby with a question that at first we couldn't answer. They were anxious to go on in to the game, so we took their seat location and promised to keep trying to find out what they wanted to know. When we did have the answer, I volunteered to go to their seats and tell them what I learned. My destination was halfway across from the lobby location. I completed my errand, and walked back through the crowd. I came back to the lobby with my adrenalin pumping. I had a long walk to get there, and inhaled the scent of diced onions and grilling sausage. A man walked past me with two funnel cakes covered with powdered sugar. People had plastic cups of beer, water bottles, babies in backpacks, children trailing along behind an impatient adult. The lineups were being introduced by the field announcer and his deep voice resonated and echoed among the crowd noises. There's nothing like a baseball stadium on a busy evening. I don't miss a concourse assignment, not exactly, but the chance to have 20-30 minutes with the crowd was wonderful. And the Rockies won! The chances to say that have been mighty slim so far this season. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
