Woodstock's Blog Books and other stuff I feel like discussing By education and experience - Accountant with a specialty in taxation. Formerly a CPA (license has lapsed). Masters degree in law of taxation from University of Denver. Now retired. Part time work during baseball season as receptionist & switchboard operator for the Colorado Rockies. This gig feeds my soul in ways I have trouble articulating. One daughter, and four grandchildren. I share the house with two cats; a big goof of a cat called Grinch (named as a joke for his easy going "whatever" disposition); and Lady, a shelter adoptee with a regal bearing and sweet little soprano voice. I would be very bereft if it ever becomes necessary to keep house without a cat. |

2014-04-30 8:08 PM Pot in Colorado In another forum, Eric responded to a situation I described involving obtaining medical marijuana (and no, not for me, at least not yet.) The whole situation with the legal sale and use of pot in Colorado is still in a state of adjustment.
One of the primary features of the business is that it is, by necessity, all cash. Federal law still regards pot as an illegal substance, and almost all banks will not open accounts for marijuana dispensaries, or offer credit card processing services. This creates security issues I will let you contemplate. Getting the days proceeds to a safe location. Protecting customers and employees while business is being conducted. Arranging for payments to vendors - not only of the product itself, but for office supplies, utility bills, rent. And, as pleasant as the prospect might seem to some, consuming pot in public is still against the law in Colorado. So watching a ball game at Coors Field while lighting up is not in the lineup. We may seem like a sort of Nirvana to those who hope for widespread legalization - but Nirvana has not arrived to date, and probably won't for awhile.
