2003-01-31 3:55 PM Just a Few Bites Shy of Finishing the Meal Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now.
I'm almost finished with the week. Because of the Science club of a neighboring all-girl high school visiting for most of the day, I had to give all three of my classes today library work while I prepared. First of all, I was dragged to be our department representative when the Dean made the opening remarks. After the students had toured the whole campus, the ushers came back to the department because they didn't know where to go next. I was awakened from my nap to deal with them. When I told them the guests were supposed to have a snack, that's when they remembered that another group touring for Biology had gone to one of the university's cafeterias. In the afternoon, I was the first to give a demonstration, of astronomy software. I should have set the computer so that I was facing them. While I was facing the projection, I don't think my voice carried all that well. My lecture was also over in less than an hour, as their lack of reactions gave me a mental block on what I was to show next. I could have left immediately afterwards, but I stayed behind because I was curious about the next part. My co-teacher demonstrated this measuring devices we had which were interfaced with the computer. His delivery was a little scattered, but I don't think they noticed that, because he was also funny. Unfortunately, he took a very long time demonstrating the first part that soon one of the teachers approached me and said they had to go, with probably only half the equipment demonstarted. So we just invited them to come back anytime. When I got back to the department, my special class student, who I was supposed to meet at 2:30pm, had left her diskette exercise in my pigeonbox. Now I only have one more stargazing in the early evening, and my co-teacher has already paid me for it. When I got my check today, there was also half as much as I expected, because of my substitution of a pregnant co-teacher. Then tomorrow, I attend the graduation ceremonies for the students who graduated last term, with a free dinner afterwards for all the faculty who attended.
