2003-03-19 7:11 PM Maybe They Like Being Spoonfed Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.
Today I totally shirked from giving a complete lecture again. Instead I made what was supposed to be a lecture topic into a group activity that required the students to think. They were just supposed to fill up three data tables. But they couldn't do that without asking for some examples, and without asking after each row filled whether they were doing it correctly or not. Of course it would become obvious after filling three rows of the table what the pattern was. At the start I kept answering them, "If that's the way you analyze it, then write it down." But in the end I just answered "Yes" to all the questions and decided to make it a very low grade activity. So much for telling them that the school accreditation board, despite giving the school the highest rating ever, still said that the students were basically just spoonfed and lacked analytical skills. And the students saw how frustrated I was getting with their questions. But they wanted to get it right, and the best way to do that was to ask. Maybe I went about it the wrong way also. I don't know. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
