Last Minute Preparations

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

It’s the third day of the Science Summer Camp. The Physics part of the program wasn’t really until 1 in the afternoon, but during the morning, while the students were still in the Chemistry labs, I was already getting text messages from my co-coordinator in the department about where to tell the students to go for the afternoon session. Since I told him I was still on my way to school just like he was, a little while later the Chemistry coordinator called me asking me where the students were supposed to go in the afternoon, so I told her.

When I got to the department, my co-coordinator had left on my table the keys to the auditorium to be used for the afternoon. He also told me to just ask for one of the technicians’ help in setting up the computer and the projector.

Lastly, he told me to just stand by from 1pm onwards in case the speaker he had arranged did not show up. At that point I had to figure about coming up with a one-and-a-half hour astronomy software in addition to the star map familiarization

Unfortunately, since the technicians’ lunch break was from 12pm to 130pm, I had to bring up the computer and projector by myself. Luckily there was a senior student who helped me carry up the CPU and the monitor. But I still set it up by myself. And it took me two tries to realize the projector was only rated for 640x480 resolution, and showed only the logo at higher resolutions, while the computer had been set up for 1024X768 pixels.

Luckily, the speaker arrived just as I had finished setting-up and the students were starting to fill up the room. So now I’m back at the department just waiting for them to finish, and writing this entry now because there’s a possibility I’ll have no more time to type this whole thing out later after the stargazing.
