Summer Ain't Over Yet

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Woke up at 6am because someone who wants to try out for Mensa said he’ll show up at 8am to fill out the reservation form for the June 21 Mass Testing in Oakwood Glorietta. For once I’m the one completely in charge of the master list for people who want to be listed in advance for the test that day. This guy doesn’t have a fax or access to e-mail, (and found out about me from one of the members and the school’s institutional testing and evaluation office) so the best way for him to fill our the information sheet early is to show up here and fill it up in person. It’s 12:45pm and no word from the guy, not even a note that he’s at the school’s gate when I got back from an early lunch at 10am.

I accompanied my co-teacher, who for some reason, was hungry already despite having been there at our departmental all-you-can-eat dinner in
Dad’s/Kamayan/Saisaki Glorietta last night. She was having difficulty thinking up of thesis topics for the students who want to get her as their adviser for the new school year. I told her that one of the ways the students can come up with their own topics is to look at the recommendations from the previous theses and just add some objectives that will make it moderately difficult and innovative.

She also agreed about the conclusions of the thesis of the medical instrumentation students that only took ten samples being useless.

Another co-teacher of mine, who will start teaching in Thailand this June, is asking me to replace him as tutor of these two pairs of high school kids in Roxas Boulevard and Boni, or to find someone who can. But remembering my two-week stint in Ortigas Avenue last September, it’s the routine middle-of-the-day commute that drains me. And for me it’s not worth the big pay. So it’ll have to be another teacher.

Today is the second day of the orientation of the College of Science freshies. It’s unfair that most of us faculty couldn’t familiarize the new students to the school on both days because of the assemblies yesterday, unlike the other colleges. Would it have mattered if they had set the schedule of Thursday and Friday instead?

4:17pm I slept most of the afternoon away given the less than four hours I turned in last night. Most likely the guy who is going to try out for Mensa will call again before he shows up here. Maybe next time I’ll ask for his name and number so I can follow up independently instead of just waiting.

5:51pm Well, it’s sealed. We’re going to Puerto Galera tomorrow until Sunday. I’ll check back in on Monday.
