2003-06-20 3:05 PM Not Yet The End of the Week Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.
It’s all astronomy Friday again. I continued the discussion on the constellations, although there is still some catching up and pacing down between the classes to be on the same page. I checked their papers from the first test this morning, and returned them to the students today. For the first class, I finished them before 8am. For the next two classes, I graded and recorded them until ten minutes before the start of my 1250pm session. When I gave them their tests back, I told the students to keep their papers in a folder or an envelope until the end of the term, where they will be used to verify my records when we compute their pre-final grades. Fortunately, there were no students who approached me with corrections to the checking or the counting, even though I rushed it somewhat. For the first two classes, the results were okay, with some getting forty over forty and just a handful getting less than twenty points. What surprised me was that my third class, which is composed of students from the College of Education, are the ones who have the most extreme scores overall, instead of having a lot of students with average ranking. There were several who got perfect, but at the same time there were also more or less the same number who got extremely low scores. I told this to the class, and they just accepted it. But I didn’t go so far as to blame them for it because they haven’t been asking questions, just like my social studies teacher in high school (Miss Teresita Bautista, if you’re reading this). I just emphasized my consultation times if they needed help with the lessons. On another front, I also finished preparing all the papers needed for the Mensa mass testing tomorrow. There were forty people who signed up in advance. I’m also in charge of on-site registration, as all of the veteran organizers can’t make it. Luckily, the other testing director will be showing up early to take care of everything inside the testing room while I’m at the front desk. Luckily my co-teacher made an overnight permit for the office tomorrow night. Otherwise, I would have had to make my exam today for the programming class on Monday, because I really don’t have the time to make it today or tomorrow. It would also give me a head start on processing the testing results to send out to the examinees, which needs to be accomplished ASAP. I guess I only have one day for my weekend this time.
