Mood: Physically Miserable Read/Post Comments (0) |
2003-11-20 7:19 AM Relying On The Surroundings Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.
Went to work under continuous sheets of rain today. It's a wonder classes weren't suspended. At least since I left the house earlier than last time it rained like this, I still got to the terminal at the point where there were a line of vehicles instead of a line of people. I bet that's going to change and the line of people will curb around two blocks again by this time. Unlike the last time I was in line, there were still no vegetable dishes being sold at the roadside eateries that I could take out for lunch later. I guess thirty minutes makes all the difference in more than one aspect. Last time I also road on the tricycle behind the driver instead of in the cab. I got both pantlegs from the shin downwards wet during the ride. This time I sat inside. There was no cover on the cab's opening, so the entire right side of my right pantleg got wet. An SUV going through a muddy puddle also splashed us once, and the girl beside me shrieked. When I was already alone in the cab, there was no cover on the left side (beside the driver) either, and the driver sped along the street, causing the rain to be pushed up the ceiling of the cab from the front, and drip down on me. Spray was also coming from the left opening of the cab, I guess because of the front wheel more than the wind. I opened my umbrella in the cab to keep my dry, and guess what? It just wet both my pantcuffs, again. Lastly, for this morning's travel blues (or grays), the shuttle to the gas station was just leaving as I got in the campus. I wasn't sure if the shuttle was following the 7am schedule of pick up, but now I am. Would save me 55% fare in the future. Hopefully, my pants will dry off before my 8am class. At least I'm not late this time, although I'm not sure about the students. Returning to Tuesday, during lunch the dean and the head of the Information Technology Center sat with me, and discussed the possibilities of holding stargazing sessions for the general college population and in tie-in with the sister schools. I told them I had already done that in Lipa last February. There was even mention of a "package" rate that includes dinner and breakfast, which we also pitched to the owner of the cafeteria. In my afternoon computer graphics class I left the students midway through the hour-and-a-half session to go back to the faculty room. It turns out the faculty attendance checker passed by and looked for me. Considering we also received a memo from the dean today about absenses, make-up classes and early dismissals, I wonder if she considers that an early dismissal because I wasn't there, even though the students were still working, and gave their disks at 410pm. Best to just stay in the computer room the whole period next time. My co-teacher Gilbert, who had wanted to push through with his stargazing session last Friday even though there was a typhoon warning, also told me what happened to him while they waited for me to get back from Makati, where I was caught in traffic. He said they stayed in the lecture room (which he asked a janitor to open for him) until 7pm, where he gave a short talk from what he remembered of my prep topics (why East and West are reversed in the starmap) and he rescheduled it for this Friday. Stayed overnight in school Tuesday. But I'll talk more about that, and Wednesday & Thursday classes, tomorrow. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
