2004-02-18 7:29 AM Plans for Work in the Summer Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.
Yesterday was the second day we had no air conditioner in the faculty room (in any room, in fact, including the dean’s office and the computer lab), so we had to settle for opening the door and windows and letting the cold breeze in from the West. The problem was that every once in a while the wind would become stronger and blow everything not weighed down, including a lot of the notices tacked on the corkboard and the papers on the secretary’s desk. We also had to pull back and tie down the vertical curtain slats otherwise they made the worst racket during the sudden gusts. The lights (not that we needed it with the windows open) the computers and the water fountain worked perfectly though. Monday afternoon I also found out what happened to the student who was supposed to make up for the Composition of Concurrent Forces experiment. His first class of the day was Religion, and there was a sort of reenactment of the baptism in the river ritual. He cut his feet on the rocks in the “river” and was in the clinic getting treated all morning. This was, of course, after I had been in the clinic after my Trig class where I was given liniment and a pill for my arm. I have also had two meetings the past two days, mostly involving the same two people (Ronnie and Maila). Last Monday was a meeting with the Dean about the College Open Campus Day on March 13. I was put in charge of the tour of the grounds, as well as, of course, coordinating the demonstrations in the science and electronics labs with David. Ronnie had put their NSTP students under my direction, although he hasn’t met with them yet telling them of the appointment. They also worked out the schedule for the day, including the “parallel” art, sports and robotics sessions in the afternoon. They also thought up of letting the participants need to complete stamps on their cards before they can get the better type of souvenirs. Yesterday we had a meeting about the Student Handbook, a condensed form of which is needed for the Freshman Orientation during the last week of summer before the classes start for the next school year in June. Since we couldn’t touch the mission vision statement, we just concentrated on the changes to be proposed on the sections concerning social norms, code of conduct, major and minor offenses, student grievances and student organizations. Also, last night was the latest in a series of nights I’ve been in the faculty room late while the student basketball varsity team and the faculty/staff team practiced under the direction of a former professional basketball player. The faculty/staff team has a system-wide tournament for the next two Saturdays. I was too late to sign up and get fitted for the uniforms, although Ronnie was suggesting I be entered in the darts competition. Where the heck did he get that idea? I know I haven’t mentioned any proficiency in that area. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
