Trying to Make the Next Five Months Easier

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Okay, I have an idea now about my load for this June, or starting May 24, to be exact (although the following schedule may not be): one mechanics lecture and lab, one electricity and magnetism lecture and lab, Graphics One - the prerequisite of the course I taught last September, and (drum roll please) Mathematical Methods One. Again.

For the first two, the students will be Information Management majors, the only college students in campus who did not take mechanics last term, plus some students who failed in my lecture class last term, and some students that David failed in lab class - who, surprisingly, do not overlap. Or should I say fortunately, otherwise shame on them.

At least in the lab I'll be able to use the projects that I got from last term's students (the mechanics' experiment set-ups), as well as the "spark" timers I got from the other day.

For the next two, there are the engineering sophomores, all of whom passed my mechanics classes also. As far as I know, they all passed the lab class too, except for John Philip, who, of course, is taking special exams these days due to his hospitalization the past few weeks. Again, my cousin will be one of my students.

For the third one, I have the engineering freshmen, plus some of the sophomore who were not able to take it last year. This still includes my cousin - a third term transferee (that's one and a half subjects more than last term that he'll be in my classes!) - and most likely a shiftee from Business Administration (that is, IF his application is approved).

From what I know, my predecessor did not fail anyone in that subject three terms ago (and that includes chronic absentee Brian).

As for the last one: as far as I can deduce there are at least four sections of Math Methods 1 next term. I also assume that these are all freshmen sections. I know Maila is handling at least one of them (dashing some of the sophomores' hopes that she will be continuing her studies out of the country starting first term).

That means there's only a 25% chance that any of the four students I failed two terms ago will again be in my class this time.

Not that I'm not willing to have them as my students again. As long as it's within the term and we're not hurtling towards finals, I'm all for giving them as much chance to pass as the other students.

I'm also not into singling out students during class for the purpose of humiliating them due to their past performance.

I just hope they don't expect special treatment in their favor just because we've all been down that road before.

But, at least, I have a little more than a month to prepare for the first few weeks of classes. I'll need it, especially for the labs.
