2004-07-09 8:36 AM Decision by Silent Majority Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.
Had my electricity and magnetism lecture first long exam yesterday, but the details would have to wait until tomorrow so some leftovers from the previous post would not get buried in forgetfulness. To round out my notation yesterday about Wednesday’s oral reporting among the engineering majors: my cousin reported on VOM familiarization which, as his classmates pointed out afterwards, is not experiment number one but an activity; the best reporter to not read from his slide presentation unfortunately spent most of his time writing the equations and pertinent terms (and some that were not so pertinent) on the whiteboard; the most prepared reporter unfortunately crammed each section of the report into one slide, resulting in unreadable small fonts. Last Wednesday there was also a meeting about the freshmen-upperclassmen acquaintance party. After the rumors of the suggestions made by the very vocal freshmen last time, the upperclassmen showed up in droves, filling twenty-plus seats while the first year representatives only numbered four. The seminar they had last Thursday on conducting meetings was also put to good use when Student Council President Ferdie asked those who wanted to comment to raise their hands first to be recognized, and would ask any person who made side comment above a whisper to their neighbor if wanted to be heard, reducing the background chatter distractions considerably if not totally. It was also good that Ferdie started by telling the assembly about the decisions made on their Student Council meeting the day before, showing that there were still things in their control, which turned out to be almost all aspects of the party. Afterwards Student Affairs Head Ronnie commended them on holding a meeting that ended at the time they said it would, instead of rambling for hours. If the freshman reps that attended were not able to voice anything to their group’s liking, we would know about it from their response to the deadline of payments for attendance, which is on Tuesday. The new program of activities now excludes the bingo game, includes four bands playing and a bidding on five “popular” freshmen, five upperclassmen and five faculty members. I’m not sure yet where the money will go to (probably the Recognized Student Organizations and Student Council’s joint activity fund). The faculty bidding was also shelved until Ronnie gets some faculty’s consent on participating. Ferdie assured that the selection is completely random. Finger foods for the students’ two hundred-peso entrance fee will be provided, for maximum “mingling”, instead of a set heavy meal. A reasonable ending time for them to propose to the administration was also given as midnight, seven hours after the start at five p.m. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
