The Brooklyn Bridge Has Been Sold On Lesser Convincing Promises

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

The following is the letter sent by the student who wants to run for president, given the day AFTER the campaign period was announced, and WEEKS after I first told him to submit it.

I told him to write the letter after he tried to corner me about the issue in the faculty one time and I decided his roundabout reasons from each reply I gave him would be best documents. He already knew it had to be addressed to me, and he still tried it pass it to the Dean’s office. That’s why his letter’s “To:” line is blank and handwritten. There is also no date, just the month, February.

[letter begins]

I am [name withheld], Com-Arts Student, and I want to address my intention to the Comelec of De La Salle-Canlubang regarding the student council election..

I am appealing to the Comelec to give considerations regarding my intention to run as an independent candidate for presidency. I am running for this position because I have great vision in improving the quality of being a true student of this school. The vision I see is unity among all students in our school. There should be neither divisions nor seniority because these are causes of discomposure. I am determined, courageous and confident to build a stronger foundation for the school.

I believe that seniority and high grades should not be the measurement in choosing a candidate. It is about being able to unite everyone and this is my aim, to make everyone become more cooperative, creative and productive because with these perception everyone will be a true student of this school.
I would really appreciate any considerations you can offer.

[Signed, letter ends]

I have preserved his original punctuations and indentations as well as the exact words.

I have mentioned this student here before. He is the one that one of my co-teachers could not bear to fail in her subject during the first term of this school year, despite not having submitted any of the requirements satisfactorily and on time, because of how easy she perceived the subject to be.

Instead she gave him a chewing out for an hour or so on one of the days after course card distribution, when he was supposed to submit the ultimate project she asked him, which, of course, was well below par, otherwise she would have just given a passing grade with no sermon.

He is also the president of a student organization that got approved this year, a martial arts group that some other students (and Recognized Student Organization members) have suspected to be a cover for a gang with a history of hazing.

The application of the group was approved, but whether they pass re-accreditation for next school year - when they have not even pushed through with their supposed regular practices after two weeks, their representatives have not been attending the RSO meetings or participating in the outreach and/or Christmas programs – is another thing altogether.

Tomorrow I’ll post our reply letter to him.
