Mood: Overblowing It Read/Post Comments (0) |
2005-03-05 7:49 AM When Teachers Latch Their Dreams to the Students Worse Than Parents Do Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.
I reserved the kicker in the pants of the Band Fest for last. Previously I talked about the girls assigned to the organizing committee, one of whom, despite not used to public speaking was assigned to give the acknowledgments. Even the Dean noticed that the head faculty organizer was not mentioned. Maybe it was intentional on their part for being slave driven, who knows. When the guest band played, they publicly showed their disappointment at the poor attendance and spirit of those who were there by asking repeatedly, “Isn’t anyone going to dance in front of the stage?” Not that anyone heeded it. The last part of the night was supposed to be a free jamming session among the members of the different bands, that started at a little past 10pm. Not ten minutes into the set though, the technicians, including the same organizer who announced the jam, started clearing the equipment on stage. Unsurprisingly, the announcement about the winners of the Student Council Elections were forgotten also. The worst offense of the evening though was the fact that two NSTP groups who wanted to sell food for their fund raising project were asked by the organizers for a fee to put up their booths. For one it was only seven hundred pesos, but another group was asked for one thousand five hundred pesos because of the variety of food they were selling. So much for their social action projects. And what was the money for? Prizes of the bands, which would not have been needed if they asked for a five hundred peso reservation fee in the first place. No wonder four out of the original nine bands that listed themselves backed out – because there was no incentive for them to push through with it, like we had originally expected. The female leader of the NSTP group was crying since she received the news that afternoon. Even though I suggested that before they pay up – to check the legality of that demand - they talk to the Dean , who was present that night, she opted to talk to Sir Ronnie the Director of the Office of Student Affairs first, which she would only be able to do either two days or four days hence. I have yet to receive news on what the outcome of that was, if she did talk to them. Two days hence was my mechanics class field trip, which coincided with the painting of the second coat of the student lounge. Sir Ronnie told me that those assigned to the afternoon shift of the painting never showed up, because they did not want to have less time to do the activities I tasked them to. That’s it for now though. I’ll continue again tomorrow. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
