Cutting Certain School Ties

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Now I’ll put a sad footnote to the cautionary tale of Mr. Give Me More Money In Exchange for An High Evaluation That Shows How Much I Educated You.

He was definitely out a few weeks before the end of classes, although I don’t know if he was able to pass on the class standings of his student so far to Sir Joel, who was the one who recommended him in the first place – and eventually finished his classes.

That is why Sir Joel declined to be the one to tell him the bad news – and it was left to the Dean to confront him.

During their meeting, it seemed it also came out that the contents of the primer were in at least one other basic book, which, of course, made it a case of plagiarism as well.

Afterwards, he even went back to the faculty room to talk to Sir Joel, although I, for one, avoided looking at him in case he saw any judgment that I would try my best to hide.

It also seems he was also asked to return the money to the students, in exchange for two more paychecks that he had not claimed.

The problem was, there were no receipts issued – naturally, for such a questionable deal: no paper trail. There is also a suspicion that he got from that racket more than ten times the amount on his two paychecks combined.

But it also seems that he got more money out of the school than that.

For some reason, he was also requested in the previous month to process the registration of our local Parents of College Students Organization with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Now, since the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office is already using the acronym PSCO, it turns out that on three separate occasions, he asked for some under the table grease money to hasten the approval of the name.

Of course, that is all non-documented except in the secretary’s record books, where they are just signed out by Sir Joel. Again, that’s also apparently fifty percent more than the pay he left behind.

That is, assuming he’d rather keep the money he has now compared to that paltry sum.

We could hunt him down when it comes to it, but we’ll probably just let the whole incident die down. Then I guess it’s an object lesson for the students who regret paying him (and want their money back) to raise the alarm immediately when something like that comes up again in the future, instead of hoping that they get a good grade out of it first before the cover on the whole operation is blown.

And, of course, he’ll be blacklisted in the whole system. That brings to mind some other similar boot outs that I could reserve for rainy days.

For now, we’re done with session number 584 (yeah, I’ve been counting – call it an accomplishment complex). Class dismissed.
