One Last Opportunity A Student Has A Chance to Exploit for the Term

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Okay, I guess it's about time to start talking about the course card distribution foul-ups, although not on my part - at least, as far as I remember.

Deiv, for example, asked when he got his grade in the Introduction to Electricity and Magnetism laboratory (it was one point five) if it already included the Innovation week bonus.

This was after he had gotten his INELMAG lecture grade, the third from the lowest passing grade.

"Oh is that where you want to put the bonus?" I asked him.

He started to explain that he thought it was a plus to all his classes under me, and I interrupted him to say it doesn't work that way. After all, I already knew the other science and engineering teachers were giving a bonus for the same thing in their classes. So it's bad enough that one submission is applicable to more than one class in that way.

Although I did not give the same option to his classmates, just to shut him up and get him to go away, I told him I would present to him the computations of how much the bonus added up to, his grades in both my lecture and lab classes without the bonus, as well as the grade point equivalents of the percentages, and I told him to return to me when he had decided how best to divide his bonus between the two grades.

In fact, when I told him "this is your final percentage" in front of some older students waiting outside the faculty room, they all went ominously, "Ooooooh."

Deiv would probably have been annoyed or embarrassed if he showed those kinds of emotions.

Anyway, afterwards he just asked me about the number of units for each course. It is, naturally three units for the lecture and one for the lab.

He answered that he was satisfied with his present grade. So I guess he was after the grade point average after all.

I have several other anecdotes about how grade greedy he is, but those will have to wait until another day.

And session number 745 admits contentment with his current grades here. Class dismissed.
