Mood: Enjoying the Novelty of the Situation Read/Post Comments (0) |

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. School year 2005-6, Term 2, Week 1, Day 1: Now this is something I have been itching to do for some time: provide additional commentary like a director on a DVD for something I have presented in the student version of this journal. I have technically done this before, but as far as I know, this is the first time that it is happening for entries of the same day. So just think of the student version as watching the movie, and this entry as the backgrounder information that is being provided for those who have access to the additional material. I said that the newly accepted (formally not yet hired, after all) Communication Arts teacher backed out from teaching three days before the start of the term. What I preferred not to mention for the students to have an opportunity to gossip about is that the person actually admitted that it was because of emotional instability. In fact, she had been in contact with another Com-Arts teacher here (other than the directress) and she had curiously asked how many single males were there among the faculty. This was before her announcement of backing out. I’d rather not spell out here my speculations about the connection of those two communiqués. What is more interesting is that right when we were in the middle of remedying the whole mess, she tried to contact the directress again and, concerned that the directress might be angry at her, offered to take back the position if it was really needed. Now, for this one, most of the faculty members who got wind of the situation and offering suggestions were of the same mind: do not accept her offer. If she suddenly disappears in the middle of the term, when most of the teachers are already knee deep in their own class preparation momentums, we would be in a more complicated quandary for which we would have to do damage control. So there were actually some who were thankful she caved before everyone “jumped in the water”, so to speak. There was also the suggestion to just give her a two or three unit course next term – part-time of course, but nothing now. By then we would probably have constructed a virtual safety net in case she folds again, as well as finding out if she is worth the trouble. Session 753 backs out of agreed upon prior commitments here. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
