Exceptions To the Rules That Teachers Give

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

In the student friendly post I talked about new subjects being offered on the last day of the academic advising schedule.

This, actually, is because that was the day scheduled for the teaching demonstration and interview of a new applicant for teaching in the third term.

It was already a sure bet that the person would be hired, because he not only has state-of-the-technology industry experience, but also connections with a university (or maybe more than one) abroad.

He can be likened to being a white collar returning overseas worker, which, apparently, is a welcome resource, not only in schools, but also in any institution who sees a potential for advancement of knowledge and methods in this tough third world nation.

The only hitch that was apparent was that it was actually his wife who had been teaching all her life, and he only had part time experience through the years.

They both live nearby, and both prefer to get back to work, especially anywhere in the vicinity.

But there is a standing policy that the same unit cannot hire both husbands and wives, especially if there ever comes a situation where one is in the position to be the other’s subordinate.

It actually takes a waiver by the president of the system for this to be overruled.

And apparently the credentials of this couple are so impressive that the university is willing to hire them both, although situations of direct work-related interaction is still pretty much avoided.

Except for teaching in some college courses but under a different discipline – and maybe only for the coming term - the wife will be dealing more with the Integrated School, while the husband will be full time in the school of engineering.

And just like with another recently hired engineer who will be starting to teach next term, in the next couple of weeks the travel-weary couple will already be contracted by the school in what is called a half-time rank where they will be making extensive preparations for their introduction into our teaching system next term, showing up in the office three days out of the week.

Session 861 has no presidential waiver. Class dismissed.
