Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. In the meeting of my general science requirement mechanics lab class for the sixth week of the third term, we had the second experiment. The problem was that with the previous sequence that I’ve used with the supply room technician, Composition of Concurrent Forces is next. In the copy that I posted for the students to follow, it is Projectile Motion that is scheduled. I didn’t find out about this until the students told me, so I had to junk (or actually shelf until the next meeting) the quiz I printed out about Forces, and gave them impromptu questions instead Projectiles. Particularly, I concentrated the procedure part of the experiment as I had promised (or threatened) the week before due to their seemingly fundamental questions during class. Some students showed frustration though in not being able to answer any question correctly when we reviewed it afterwards, so they said might as well not have taken the quiz. Maybe I should have a policy of giving them already a token one point or something, or including at least one incredibly easy question in there. Since the technician also left the equipment out beforehand for the Forces experiment then went to take care of some preparation for the Integrated School Science Camp happening several hundred meters from the building, it was left to me to look for the keys to the glass shelves and bring out the right equipment for the Projectile experiment. One group, who did not use a math notebook for their notebook, has taken to tearing the graphing grids from their manual to paste in their notebook, and for this experiment, even asking for sheets from the other groups who do have math notebooks. The other group who has not used their notebook last meeting because the student member who has it was absent had to use paper again this time because that member was absent again, although at least they had one member more this time that before. Maybe I should give them an ultimatum for next week. Session 995 also messed up the official sequence of experiments. Class dismissed.
