Adding Another Digit of Accomplishment

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Since yesterday had a count of nine hundred ninety nine posts for both this journal and the student edition, that means that today I have hit the first four digit, one thousand entry mark for both chronicles. In fact, by the end of the day I would have the same tally as the Arabian Nights of lore, and nine hundred more than the famed Dalmatians: 1001.

This site already has eight hundred and thirteen days logged, and one hundred and eighty eight for the student friendly rendition.

If I had not initiated the second journal, it would have taken me roughly ten more months just writing here to reach that milestone number.

Just counting the days since I started though, I passed the thousand day mark exactly four months ago. By strict reckoning this is already Day Number 1123. But anyone can just post once a month and say that their effort is already five years old.

Again I have to emphasize the discipline that is being instilled in setting aside a little time each day for a little personal reflection and at the same time creating something for the elucidation of other people.

Writing it all down also gives me the sense that even though I am teaching basically the same subjects year in and year out, that there is some improvement in comparing my methods from before and now, not just by rereading previous entries, but just by some internal sense of “I’ve never typed anything about this before.”

That either means I’m getting better or worse in my teaching practices, but at least I’m certain that I’m not in the rut of repeating just one set of lectures over and over again with absolutely no adaptation to the changing times.

One game I like to play sometimes is to just call up any page from the past of this account and see if I can determine the specific time frame (year, term or month, even day) of that particular occurrence. After giving an initial guess, then I would read either the entry before or after that and try to confirm my deductions. So far there is some distinction between what and how I’ve been writing since I started more than three years ago.

Session 1001 has shown signs of adaptation, either positively or negatively. Class dismissed.
