More Middle of the Term Adjustments

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

In the meeting of the first section of my Engineering Computer Aided Design and Drawing class for the fourth week of the first term, the computer lab technician told me that he was having problems running the primary software we are supposed to use, although he had installed it in the units there already.

I still have confidence that he will be able to make it work though, so for that meeting I had the students use the secondary software, the same one that was used for the previous year's offering of the same subject, to create several maps.

There was a part of me that was actually thinking of having them search the net again for reviews and comparisons of the secondary software with the program used in their Graphics Two study, but maybe that was enough preparation time for getting their hands "dirty".

I gave them three exercises to complete, but the fact that they stayed in the lab beyond the regular breaktime told me that it might have been a lot to ask of them the first time they used the software.

There were also some students from the second section who looked in while we were there, and I threatened to give them a more difficult task since they could already get a headstart on the work for their session if I gave them the same instructions.

In the first session of my Engineering Material Science lecture class that I went to for the entire term, of course the regular and irregular third year engineering students were surprised that I was there. Some even asked as to the reason for the change, and if it was permanent, which I didn't want to answer.

They were even more surprised that I concentrated on the computational aspects of the topics instead of going for the conceptual parts that usually leads to a memorization type of exam.

I reviewed the last chapter they discussed, not fazed when Deiv (yes, he was in this class) kept raising his hand to answer, after all, they were already given the handouts for the lesson.

But when I asked him how the numerical values were derived, that was when he had no reply.

I'll continue this topic tomorrow.

Session 1165 also knew only the result. Class dismissed.
