Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I was talking about some of the exhibits that the Executive Vice President of the school suggested for the Innovation Week from his own personal stores. But since that topic isn't necessarily off-limits for the students' eyes then that can be discussed in the for-everyone “version” of this journal. Now, on to my other classes. In the first meeting of my Introduction to Electricity and Magnetism lecture students for the ninth week of the first term, I finished up the chapter on Potential, number 28. Well, it's actually only the fourth chapter we've discussed, since the second volume of the textbook we're using starts with the twenty fifth. I just gave them the equations for potential for the different continuous charge distributions, of which they should be very familiar by now. Afterwards I gave them four problems that they had to answer again by groups, just like during the last review session the meeting before the exam. Unlike the last time though, where they basically just answered in their chairs, this time when people got stuck with one portion of one problem, I had it written on the board for the entire class to work out. I also had to draw the illustrations for eventually all of the problems, since there were still some people who couldn't get the simple descriptions with the problems. Maybe next time I'll ask them to draw it themselves first just to see what they think, then I'll comment if it's wrong. I also retorted to their question if I was going to give them the wrong answers to the problems again afterwards. I pretended to be hurt that they were lambasting my solutions, then backed down saying it really was my intention for them to check the procedure themselves. Yeah, right. Session 1215 doesn't get the picture. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
