2006-08-22 12:25 PM Choosing Between What the Student Knows Best and What's Easiest to Remember Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. In the second meeting of my Introduction to Electricity and Magnetism lab class for the thirteenth week of the first term, we had the last batch of the practical exams. Despite my admonition the last time, the students were still able to hear about the eighth sheet in the drawing, with the letter X allowing the students to choose the experiment. From last year, the choice students had for this one was the easy procedure and theory on magnetic field. This year, the first one chose Ohm's Law, and the second one chose Galvanometers, and Construction of Ammeters and Voltmeters, which for her was good, because she got the highest score of all, thirty two out of twenty, since she knew a lot about the experiment: materials, theory and methodology. And besides one student in the first batch, there was no one else who drew Magnetic Field. In the last meeting of my Engineering Drawing and Design class for the whole term, we almost didn't get to meet at all, since the Dean was asking to use the lab room for the defense of the practicum students. Fortunately, there was a temporary solution found that allowed them to use the media lab with a net connection just for the occasion. Still, some of the students were asking for an extension, to the first day of finals, but I could not oblige, only to the last day of classes. And even though it was only a contingency plan before when I hadn't checked all of their diskettes yet, they have made it into a habit to pass their files by email. These, I have to list down as being submitted on the time and date stamp of receipt, since when I download the files, the original information of creation is lost. I am so proud of their work though that I am planning of holding an exhibit, either with a projector to a wall or a bank of monitors, to showcase their work. It may have to be done for the start of next term though. Session 1269 cannot finish all the exercises for drawing. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
