Higher Education Answering to a Higher Calling

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Just a short footnote about Ephraim (which ironically I'm starting with).

As with some other students who are more interested in sports than in their classes, and who believe the movie-promulgated myth that in schools, being good in sports is enough to earn them a degree even if they learn zip or never attend their classes, Ephraim (I have noticed) is more diligent in attending the badminton training than in any of the classes I've handled.

What's even worse is that even though he is part of Team B, he attended the training of Team A, maybe hoping just like in most of his classes that his mere presence is enough to make him a better player.

I've even heard from the other team members that he has hired a personal trainor, when he is more in need of a full-time tutor.

Talk about having his priorities backwards, or deceiving his parents of such.

Now on to my Intermediate Robotics lab class for the fourth week of the first term.

Because of the weather disturbance, our exhibition of their first project had been moved to that meeting. Unfortunately, due to a request from the Executive Vice President, he wants to be present at the demonstration with his Integrated School children, and he was out of campus that day.

So just like in my Introduction to Robotics class, we had one competition on that day for half of their project grade, and another one on the day requested by the EVP where they could improve their design.

Which they will have to, because only one group was able to traverse the ascending and descending stairs successfully without dropping the egg.

One group, in fact, was not able to finish their design, so they were automatically last place, to the relief of the group with the shortest time.

I also asked them to rank their other group mates in terms of contribution to the project, so hopefully that will force a certain student to be more participative in our assignments.

Session 1343 has his own world. Class dismissed.
