Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. To continue with my tale from yesterday, the committee assigned to determine who among the college faculty who requested would receive the two-year computer loan, since we were not sure of the limit of our responsibilities, said that if there was no plan of assigning a computer to the guidance counself as part of her duties, then we recommend her being given one. But if she can be sent a unit from the computer center for her office, then we would give the two grants to the other two teachers who passed forms. Personally though, I found that the request of one of the math teachers for a laptop for tests and solved problems to be superfluous. Now if she had said she was going to make interactive graphing examples for a website that the students can play with, I would have given her the grant wholeheartedly. Anyway, the reaction from the administration was that they were being forced to choose between the importance of teachers and counselors and that the college counselor not being assigned a computer in her office doesn't mean she is not considered worthy. At least it was clarified that the grant was only for materials development of people who had teaching load, although the counselor technically right now has a faculty rank and is taking up her masteral degree. The administration questioned just how important computer encrypted files were to a counselor's job to perform properly. I'm also not surprised that what irked the administration was that there was a deadline given to the decision, since one of the other members of the committee seemed to have been worried about the teachers who requested getting impatient to find out if their application had been granted or not. One last thing, there was also the option of only awarding one of the computer loans, so if the committee had decided that only one teacher was deserving, then only one would have been given. There really ought to be a set of guidelines for the committee to follow next time, and hopefully permanent members who may not apply for the loan sometime in the future. Session 1361 needs a diplomatic way of writing things. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
