2006-11-11 3:00 PM Third and Last Part of the Disappearing Science Teacher Dilemma Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. So yesterday morning I was finally able to give the new mechanics and introduction to electricity and magnetism teacher the particulars about the subjects she was going to be taking over. I had already talked to some of the students from the mechanics lab and they said that the reason why they didn't show up for this recent week's meeting was because one of classmates called up the school (particularly the college faculty room) earlier that day and that this guy claimed the college secretary had told him they didn't have any teacher, when in fact she was the one who had set up the teaching demo and the interview for earlier that day so that there was a possibility the new teacher could meet the class already in the afternoon. In other words the college secretary denied the call. So I told the new teacher (as well as the guy in charge of faculty attendance at the registrar's office - who was also present during our retreat) that so that these freshmen students would not get the idea that they could just not show up for any class - and stand up the teacher - without any consequences, that they will have to make up all of the classes they missed (both lecture and lab) because of their mass absence. So things will be more or less back to normal for the last five weeks of the term, starting Monday, in that front at least. One more side note about this new teacher is that she was also the teacher of another of our faculty members, who - even though she is teaching business and management courses, for some reason took up electricity and magnetism. And this new teacher apparently really helped them learn the topics well, even though it was not in any way related to their major and - as far as I know - is also not a general education course. Oh, for the time (not in the foreseeable future) when the school would offer non-mathematically heavy science courses for non-engineering and non-computer science majors, now that there are more of us "experts" in such topics here in the campus. Session 1397 must know the bad effects of boycotting a class. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
