Bad Luck This Term with Science Teachers

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

This week I found out that the third new teacher that we have hired in the middle of the term to handle the general science requirement mechanics lecture and lab classes, as well as the introduction to electricity and magnetism lecture class, had to back out until the end of the term (three weeks from now) because of a death in the family for which she had to go to the province.

And finally, it was the Executive Vice President himself, who, at the start was reluctant to give me any of those classes because it would be considered overload and he did not want teachers just accepting additional work for more pay if it meant there's a possibility the students' learning would suffer, who, forwarding the e-mail from the new teacher, finally gave the overload to two of us already full loaded teachers this term.

Maybe what made him finally give in was that we are just talking about two weeks of sessions and finals anyway, and the fact that we really have no more time to just pluck another resume for our files and go through the motions of having a teaching demo for less than a month's worth of salary.

For me this means having to set aside at least one of my classes, the Computer Circuit Fundamentals lab class, for another time, since they are smaller than the mechanics lab, and I already have more contact with them than with these new students, that I could request for a change of schedule knowing I won't be receiving a lot of complaints from any quarter.

I met the INELEMA class this morning, and pretended crying in the back because we were going on the same topic once again of the Loop and Node Rules of circuits with more than one voltage source, as we alredy did around this time last term.

But I have to admit, they were more retentive of some of the concepts given by the other teacher, even if there were certain assumed portions, such as the labels and the directions of the currents.

And the fact that it is a smaller class size (about a third of that before) helps.

Tomorrow I'll talk about the last experiment (for them, first for me) in the mechanics lab class. And my preparation for their practical exam next week and the field trip (so it's like I get to spend the best and worst parts of the class with them).

Session 1427 had four teachers in one subject this term. Class dismissed.
