Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I forgot that from last week I was supposed to talk about the first experiment I had with the general science requirement mechanics lab class, which turned out to be their last experiment, and not exactly the last one they were supposed to perform in the sequence of the topics of the manual. But, as I had warned the third teacher to take over for that class, it was the most time consuming one. I guess she took my advice to heart about performing the experiments that can be done several in one meeting. Up to now I’m still perplexed by the order which the second teacher used, starting with Conservation of Mechanical Energy (before Forces), followed by Newton’s Second Law, then Composition of Concurrent Forces, Uniform Acceleration, Torque and Rotation, and Projectile Motion. I handled the Coefficient of Friction. I told them to borrow the equipment first so that I could demonstrate, which they showed surprise over. It didn’t do much good for several of the students who showed up late though, since the teacher didn’t institute any early-attendance forcing quiz at the start. We also got to use the laptop computer of one of the students for computing the slope of the graph they were supposed to make, using the method of least squares, and that helped make their work swift. I also had to lay the groundwork for their practical exam this week, giving them the benefit of only having to study three out of the seven experiments and drawing one of those three during the day itself, instead of having to study all seven for that lucky one oral presentation. I don’t know though if I’m going to adhere to that again in the succeeding terms. After all, I’m just giving these students enough breathing space so they don’t complain of too much strictness after their ordeal with the other teachers. Session 1433 likes new teachers because they sometimes are too green to fail students. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
