Some People Not Acting Out of the Box They've Displayed for Themselves

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

The final demonstration of the project for my Intermediate Robotics class was held yesterday (and yes, this is a post about a certain student again).

I had an exam to proctor for most of the morning, but his classmates told me that he only visited the room once, then stepped out again.

He passed by twice more when I was there, even going so far as to buy batteries for their brain box when his group mates said the original guy who went out to buy them wasn’t back yet. They ended up arriving together, so they had two sets of batteries for their robot then.

We were already thirty minutes late for the set demonstration time, and according to the guard, the EVP had already passed by and gone when we showed up. I also didn’t see any favorable reactions from the teachers about having had to wait, since they were there on time.

The details of the demo itself I’ll leave for the student version, but I will say that the last group didn’t show up again. I guess they were tweaking their design or program again at the last minute, and comfortable in the fact that they drew last in the order of performances.

According to the students who returned to the robotics room though (I didn’t want to return and face his pleadings again), this student wasn’t particularly concerned about not getting to perform (and get a low grade), it was most of his group mates who were, since it was their design in the first place. And I bet it would have won in the kid voting, because theirs was the only robot to bop its head.

As for this student’s behavior, maybe he did learn from our last confrontation. Or maybe he was still in shock about having been failed my another teacher in advanced mechanics, after being in that teacher’s crosshairs for three terms now, and finally shown the bad side of annoying a teacher.

I did tell the group they can still submit their CD for their robot construction though, with the video.

Session 1443 should have concentrated more on finishing the project and not one aspect. Class dismissed.
