Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. There was a meeting today with the new Brother President who will be taking over in the next school year from Brother Ricky. His name is Brother Kenneth, and the fact that he dragged most of the faculty over to the media lab when some of them have classes (or at least the college secretary saying she's repeating the executive vice president's orders while he's in another province that the teachers should be in the lab ten minutes before the brother arrives) for me makes a horrible first impression of not being really prioritizing the teachers' classes. It was scheduled at an odd hour in between the start and end of two classes, and when some of those teachers who don't have classes are taking advantage of the break to have lunch. And since I was one of those who didn't have class in the earlier period but one in the later period, I was herded into the meeting by the secretary, and I thought it would make a horrible first impression on me if I left in the middle of the meeting. It was bad enough that I had my laptop with me which I had on during the presentation of one of the thesis-writing senior engineering students and had it on the table in front of me, even if it was closed while the brother was there. I had a feeling he was observing everything keenly, especially the one time he was looking for a reaction from us and didn't get any. He did admit that he had met with the non-teaching staff before meeting with us, and that they had expressed concerns of being marginalized in terms of salaries and benefits. Good thing my co-teacher who was lacking in zeal that I have talked about wasn't there (after all, one of his trademark habits of dedication is moving all of his classes to either have Wednesday or Friday or both days off a week) or he would have been let down as to what the Brother had to discuss about potential excuses for why the school might not be able to give some of the benefits he had been so fervently complaining. And luckily it did not degenerate into a session where the teachers complained about things that had been declined by the EVP, and therefore going over his head to try and get them implemented. Session 1537 was abusing the power of presidency early. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
