Mood: But I Think It Is Everything Read/Post Comments (0) |
2007-04-20 8:47 AM Students Shouldn't Think School Is Everything Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I have a lot of questions in mind related to the student-accessible edition first topic for today, which I’m not sure if I want to be putting into the students’ noggins. Did the teachers approach the day’s giving of grades with trepidation of brutal and mortal retribution on the part of the students who might feel they were wronged? Were the students aware of the incident at all, and were they speculating on the option in case things did not go their way, and they would receive flak from their parents? Was the director of the school of engineering serious in saying “that’s the way I want to go: a hero” (a Spartan?) when he mentioned during our discussions the teacher who was killed barring the door to prevent the shooter from his students? Will we really ever get to the point where students may be refrained from going to class because of their displayed sadistic tendencies in their literary works, or if they continue to demonstrate asocial behavior towards teachers and fellow students? After all, this is the school system from which carnival rides during fairs have been banned on campus for more than a decade since an incident where, in one of the primary and secondary schools, a ten-year old boy goading the operator of one of the rides to “go faster” led to deaths by dismemberment. Once bitten, and the administrators do not even want to look the direction of having a repeat of the same incident to the dejection of the students the years afterwards, instead of just imposing stricter rules of safety for operation. In this campus alone, a string of unfortunate circumstances have led to an unsupported steel railing in the ballet room to fall on a five year old girl left alone for just a few minutes and crush her jaw – on the day when the ballet room was supposed to be closed to bolt the railing to the floor, but the mother brought her to the class anyway and insisted that the guard open the room because of her frustration from the teacher being late the day before. And, not surprisingly, since them ballet has never been offered here again nor the dance rehearsal room with the large mirrors lining one wall been made accessible to anyone below high school and without teacher supervision. Will the brothers react the same way towards fears expressed of a “school shooter in the making”? Session 1599 thinks “pass me or else”. Class dismissed.
