2007-05-24 11:56 AM Can One Make It Going Through Life Disregarding Deadlines? Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I heard one third year engineering student today say that she has not enrolled yet: she has not paid and she is willing to take care of the hundred peso a week late charge if it means that by the time she sends in her tuition, all the possible kinks in her schedule would have been taken care of. This means that before that time she will be checking out the dates and times of the classes that she wants, and she will be approaching the teachers about moving around the schedules to remove the conflicts, also so that she can maximize the number of units she will be taking for the term. This also means that she will be getting around the hassle of having to fill up adding and dropping forms. I hope that none of the other students get wind of this scheme, although there are already the fourth year irregular students who, despite the fact that they are the ones who petitioned for new subjects to be opened, were not in during the first day to try and convince the teachers to change the schedules. The flip side of this coin, of course, is that if they had sent in the subjects that they want to petition during the original period which was at the same time as the first academic advising in the term, they would probably not had any conflicts at all by the time the end of the term rolled around, because the dean would have ironed out all the kinks at that juncture, or it would have lessened considerably. On the side of the dean, she believes that they were only able to petition this late because they had not prepared for the subjects that they eventually failed, which is actually just the case for a few of them, less than twenty percent. That reminds me of a certain student. His mother was able to plead to the registrar's office to allow him to pass the subject that he was not enrolled in that he had failed before. Now it is really up to the vigilance of the teachers to tell the students when they are or are not in their class lists, to be able to avoid repetitions of the same situation. Also, his (presumably older) sister is going to teach English in the Integrated School. Does this mean that he will now have someone close by to tell on if ever he feels that his teachers (or worse, classmates) are treating him unfairly in classes? Or will someone finally see the side of the teacher regarding his poor study habits and reprimand him further? Only the unfolding of the term will tell, and I will try to be on top of this real life drama first hand. Session 1635 is looking for someone who will be on their side. Class dismissed.
