Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. It's sad that we, out of some strange coincidence, have two engineering transferees who both had to take a leave of absence in the middle of this term, both due to different health reasons. The first one, who had already finished a different bachelor's course in another campus of the district, somehow contracted hepatitis. He's not in any hurry though to return to studies because it is just a second course, after all, so he just might get a job pending his successful recovery to offset his medical bills. The second one, who is from another school in the district, suffered from a burst appendix. His recovery time is three weeks, which they have deemed to be too long to make up for, so he will just return next term. Let's hope that this isn't a jinx that will carry to the other students. @@ It's strange to discover that the first cafeteria concessionaire allowed for the food booths during this foundation week to stay and operate in the quadrangle up to Sunday. This is considering that several instances before, they have complained about outside catering for even events that are beyond their normal operating hours (Saturday nights, for example). The worst they threatened was breach of contract, but that was apparently when they thought that it was the students who were behind the motion and not the administration, who suggested the catering. After all, that launch was for the entrepreneur street of the students, which means more competition for the cafeteria in the long run anyway. Maybe they thought in the long run, since the food stands don't change their menus, that before the week is up the students would have gotten tired of the new food already and be back to something more stable. Well, greed does strange things to the way some people think. Session 1729 may think this is a victory over the cafeteria when the other side may be thinking the same thing. Class dismissed.
