Mood: Waiting for Them to Be Shocked Wrong Read/Post Comments (0) |
2007-09-22 8:53 AM School Is Just Something Students Think They Have to Suffer Through Before Getting to Make Their Own Decisions Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Entering the faculty room this morning, there was a package at the door. It was from one of the students who had just finished their OJT. He arrived in school at 7am and couldn't wait for anyone to pass his manuscript to. I guess he also didn't trust the guards to give it to anyone for him. The thing is, this is a very important document, which would determine his finishing his studies, and he leaves it out in the open accessible to anyone on a day when there are still classes where if someone had a notion to sabotage his efforts (and he has his share of those he has rubbed the wrong way) all they had to do was swipe it and let him print out another one. And what if there were pictures there? He'd have to have them reprinted too, and redo the layout. There are times when some students don't lay enough significance to their school work. I could say the same for what I talked about yesterday, seeing as we are talking about the culmination of all that one has learned. It makes the matter very evident if someone just has the attitude "this'll do" which would be difficult to break if they've had it all their academic lives anyway, or if they will realize the vitality of the event and their presentation. Something needs to happen to tell these students that the behaviors they mold in their formative teen years in school are what determines their work ethics later on, which would make it difficult for them either to advance and get higher pay, or to change. There really ought to be schools (tertiary, of course) that are more like the jobs the students have waiting for them, instead of coddling them and spoonfeeding them until they are in their twenties. Session 1827 thinks school and needing to graduate is just a waste of time. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
