"Unfair", the Teacher Cries Out for Once

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

The schedule for the teaching effectiveness assessment has been sent to the teachers for this term - thankfully not posted in the rooms anymore, since in one room - the media lab, it had lain undisturbed for several terms last time that was done.

Besides, it goes against the administration-supported drive of the student council against using adhesive tape on the chalkboards, because it leaves difficult to remove marks unless repainted.

It will also be effected on the tenth week of classes, again inconsistent with what they have been doing for the past three terms.

I think it was two terms ago when the evaluation was done on the fifth week of classes, not even on or after midterms. There's a part of me that thinks that having the evaluation around this time has its benefits compared to during midterms (where some former co-teachers have joked about turning from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde after that turning point), but it is definitely too early to have it before that time.

Another unfair practice that the psychometrician seems to be having just one evaluation for the lecture and lab subject, when it's an accepted practice that sometimes the teacher in either is different.

Casting aside the rare possibility that the two teachers would have the same rating, one will definitely be pulling the other down, and that one will enjoy a boosted rating from the better teacher.

This is definitely something that has to be taken up with the administration.

And speaking of which, one of the things I wrote in the survey form about what will be "discussed" during this weekend's retreat is "no talk of academic concerns" unless it deals with a teacher's well-being and given a solution that does not have to do with a change in existing administrative policy.

There was also quiet recharging and no large group sharing, which, from past experience with this bunch of people at workshops, is really just a waste of time for most present listening to one person.

Session 1895 loves the opportunity to have a captive audience. Class dismissed.
