Pulling Student Election Strings Again

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

For today, the first day of the new month and the last one for the second term, I will talk about the impending student council elections.

The announcements will be posted on Monday, just like three years ago.

Although thankfully, there won't be anymore extension due to lack of candidates just like three years ago. In the past two years, even though the announcement was made during the third term, everyone still was able to pass their candidacy forms by the deadline.

Another major change is that the candidates for the president and the vice president must now previously have been officers either in the student council, in any recognized student organization, or in any of the volunteer organizations (such as the student publication, and even the election commission itself).

This is because historically, there has never been a student who did not have any previous position who won. So if the students themselves do not know the candidate's work record, they will no elect him or her.

Yes, this would foster the ambition of "career politicians" early (which is partly the reason for the topic of the student accessible version), but we want to be able to see a track record of achievements in leadership before electing someone.

Besides, this yearly change is another slight jab at the student council to the fact that the election commission is still ad hoc because they have not ratified the new constitution.

Another change is the inclusion of the school assembly chairs in the election, who were just appointed (and their positions newly made) by the incoming council at the start of last year.

The grade point average requirement of the chairs are the same as the secretary, treasurer and academic commissioner, by the way, which is two point zero, point five higher than for the other commissioners and point five lower than for the president and VP.

Session 1925 is ready for protests and more inquiries about the new restrictions. Class dismissed.
