2008-01-17 1:06 PM Bad Habits Being Passed On to the Students Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Slacker co-teacher has done it again. Taking advantage of two other teachers who were talking about swapping classes, he joined into the fray, so that he could get rid of his Wednesday 8am class. Although he still has classes on Wednesday afternoon, there is still the possibility that he would get that schedule changed just to keep that day free for him, or on any other day where he has one class. I just wish the administration would realize what he's been doing for the past two or so years and put their foot down, saying that's the reason why he doesn't get promoted: because not only is his lack of dedication showing in all these shortcuts to not working he's taking, but transcribing laboratory manuals he photocopied isn't going to be enough to get above the rank of an associate professor first step. At the very least he should create experiment procedures, instead of throwing out of the books from the other schools what could not be performed using the equipment that we have. Then there is filling in all the extra time with giving projects to the students that they have to research on, for which he doesn't even teach anything, but just reacts to what they have found, saying if it is appropriate or not (according to him). Part of the problem is that in his former school, he was just a part time recent graduate level lecturer, for which the requirements for promotion weren't as strict. And since he was only in the office during his classes, and never hanging around to find out the "politics" of the department, then he never realized the hardships that the professor ranks had to go through to be able to increase in classification. This means researches performed and original papers presented. In other words they have to show through their output that they are worth the high salary that the school is paying them. Session 1981 looks for most gain for the least effort - in the wrong place. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
