2008-01-24 12:20 PM Personal: Don't Like Cliffhangers Such As These Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. This could be written in the other journal, but since I refer to a New Year's Resolution here that I didn't mention there, here it goes. Thanks to the automatic update feature of the "now reading" list in the student accessible version of this journal, I now know that the book I am currently reading, "Mars" by Ben Bova, has a sequel, which I don't have. Somehow, even though the author probably intended the first book to be standalone at the time, this still somewhat takes away from my enjoyment of the book. This happened when they provided a picture for the book I added to my media list. Somehow, both the books "Mars" and "Return to Mars" were added to my list. Of course I'll still finish the book (after which I'll start on "The Nanny Diaries" that Chat lent me after lending me the DVD. Somehow if it was movies, I'd watch it as soon as it came out (although that was before my resolution; now, in this regard, good things come to those who wait) even though I know there's a third part waiting down the road, like "Matrix Reloaded" and "Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones". And I only watched "Matrix Reloaded" just so that I could have a broader picture of what the creators did wrong after the derivative work that was the first movie - not because I liked it. This "contradiction" is because they are easily accessible. Books though, since I don't buy from Amazon and their ilk, are more difficult to find. So if I read a book that just happens to have a Part II, when I finally find that, I will have to read Part I again to refresh my memory. Thus I'd rather not read Part I first, preferring to read them all consecutively for maximum fact retention and enjoyment. It's not surprising therefore that I have several books in the back of my shelf waiting for their sequels to be acquired before they get moved to the "been there, read that" pile. Session 1991 thinks maybe other readers don't have the same habit. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
