Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Our Dean, who is not renewing his contract beyond May of this year, is in Jakarta right now delivering a talk, which may or may not have been why the Brother President sent us his email at the time he did about needing to look for a new Dean, just before the old Dean left.

I know for a fact that the secretary had been forwarding all the emails regarding the Dean's imminent departure to him even before he went on the one-week trip to Indonesia, and that several people have approached him about it, but he just shrugged his shoulders.

Now, apparently because he has finished with his speech and is more "relaxed" he was able to give a generic cover-all email to everyone who sent him messages in all mediums since the news broke.

First, even though he didn't explicitly say so, he felt bad that the Brother President told everyone before he did, when he was planning to do so in March. But he did say that he understands that the Board of Trustees may want to get early approval of the new dean by their early March meeting, if possible.

He apologized for not having told the directors of the school at least.

He also said he had made the decision as early as November, although he said he agonized over it, that it didn't come easy.

He said he does not regret having been in the position he was in since 2003.

Underlying statement: it's not job dissatisfaction, or that's what it's supposed to imply. It could mean the regret came only at the end.

He also assured everyone that it isn't for greener pastures, ending with the joke that he was sure everyone agreed there could be no greener pastures than what we already have in campus.

For me that means he will be going back to the main campus, where he was just seconded for five years (and one term, just to round out the school year, even if his contract really ended December).

There was no explicit reason given, and I guess we shouldn't expect it. Well, I'm not expecting one anyway, even just to end all the speculation.

Session 2027 still has questions and still has no answers. Class dismissed.
