Mood: Just Hanging On Read/Post Comments (0) |

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. For the third week in a row, I was not able to meet my Tuesday early afternoon class, again because of an emergency session with some higher-ups because of the dean vacancy. Just when everyone thought the issue of the dean position had finally been resolved, or at least passed out of the hands of the faculty, there was another twist that the brother president told us. Apparently, those nominated by their peers had declined the position - all of them. So the president was left with three options. First was directly heading the college just like the executive vice president did last year, working immediately above the school directors. The second option was to have an officer-in-charge who will perform some of the duties of the dean, but most of the academic responsibilities will be handled by the directors themselves. In other words, he called this person the "office manager" of the college. This option, he said, will be for a term-to-term basis, but hopefully a new dean will be found by the second term, which will also be done for the first option, which he could not see performing for an entire year and leave the fund generating activities. The third option is to look for someone from outside, but preferably still having worked within the district, even those retired. This is because it will still be just an interrim position until stated otherwise. He forgot a fourht option, which is just having a committee of capable faculty performing the various duties of the dean (discipline, reconsiderations of applicants, student affairs, etc.). Thankfully this is a very hands-on and considerate president, who gave us yet another e-mail address of his for those who want to give him confidential suggestions and insights on the matter. Session 2067 believes continuance of learning should be prioritized before learning itself. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
