2008-04-04 5:38 PM A/P: The Equivalent of A Temper Tantrum of the Part of the Faculty Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Latest chapter in the dean dilemma: both sides. First, finally it has been announced what the old dean's new job will be for the next school year: assistant to the vice chancellor for missions and external relations in the main campus. What is that? It's a new position (the VC part and the whole team, of course) created for the sole purpose of increasing the district's tie ups with international universities, and to boost that score for our district in the list of the top universities (both of the world and in Asia). That would be a piece of cake for him considering he already has a lot of connections abroad, and he won't have to give that up. What I don't know is if it means he will not be given any teaching units in the college of computer studies, because that would mean he would still be my teacher or still try to become my adviser. Now to what I heard from the other faculty happened at the last meeting with the brother president, where he reacted to their sinuously signed letter as well as telling him the latest happenings with the search for the new dean, and they got to open their mouths as well, but not necessarily for the better. The president, first of all, said that even the board of trustees are having second thoughts about getting someone from the husband and wife team of doctorates, despite their impressive backgrounds, and even if they would change their minds about refusing. Second, even though there was a push from the part of the faculty to get the sole non-doctorate nominee, the board of trustees felt that as a non-science and technology graduate, it would not be best for the current thrust of the school. And I finally read their letter. They want that period of at least one term where the brother president handles the college directly (citing history) if only to further their intention that they want someone who is currently employed to step into that position, meaning they are going to use that time to try and persuade the nominees who backed out into accepting. It's just so bad that they had to show their apprehension to the brother that they don't think someone from the outside is the best choice for the matter as if they didn't, at one time, also come from that position and were not refused. Session 2101 still has so much to say on the matter, but will reserve it for another day. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
