2008-04-12 9:10 AM A/P: The Adminstration's Mixed Priorities Trickles Down to the Teachers and to the Students Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Somehow I'm suspecting that the confirmation for the third batch of the institutional workshop, which has never happened before (usually an initial signing was enough) is due to the college faculty members who left "early" during the first batch. "Early" being defined as on the night of the second day, when it was clear in the schedule given that only breakfast and departure would be happening on the third day. And take note that this is right before finals week started, when the college faculty are at their busiest. After all, what are these people (mostly integrated school faculty, who in the first place are begrudging the higher salary being given to the college) complaining about really? That the college faculty did not stay long enough after the team building activities to "bond" and have fun, when even the brother president went to sleep early that night? @@ Another facet of complaint: it has been twice now in one week that the college secretary expects me to have my mobile phone with me during class, when at any time the dean could call me for a meeting that starts earlier than expected. Before I did leave my phone in the faculty room, so I was only able to ask about the update of where the visitors are after my class. This time I told her to get a proctor for the finals I was having at the moment for me to go there. Thankfully I wasn't told to just leave my class there and attend to the dean's needs. But in all this season of urgent meetings discussing the leaving of the old dean and the sentiments of everyone about how to find a new dean, classes have been sadly laid to the side. I'd prefer to nominate those who stick to their classes then. @@ There really should be a consequence to students not going for academic advising during the offered time, because now, besides the finals and the checking, we advisers have to deal with students who want to get their classes now. There really is already a culture of wanting to give excuses and make shortcuts instead of following procedure, which will most likely not serve the students well at all when they get a job. And the employers will blame the school. Rules have to be announced and enforced or it's utter chaos eventually. Session 2113 doesn't see long term consequences to desired actions. Class dismissed.
