A/P: The Superior and the Subordinate

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Well, spending time with Mr. Most-Important-Research yesterday wasn't half bad, especially since I did get to see him working under the sun and sweating to finish a research someone else started.

It - only just a little - took the sting off his text to me early this morning telling me to what to inform the IT OIC, when I know they've already been in contact before also by SMS.

So I just replied to him that I will send an email to the person that I could visit in his office if I wanted to. Just to show him that I'm only willing to go so far for what he wants.

It also eeriely mirrors a book that I'm reading right now that has overtones of "The Nanny Diaries" with someone dominating another person of the same gender to all her work for her.*

It's a position I would never put myself in on purpose. The line I've drawn (in my head - what an image!) where personal pride becomes more important that the pay or impressing other people who could promote me is very close to the normal levels.

It's also a good thing I'm not the bottom feeder of a totem pole (again, mixing visual analogies!) right now, so that I could delegate anything passed on to me like that to someone else.

That's one good thing I could say about red tape: it puts everyone asking others to do something for them on equal footing; no cutting in line, no prima donnas, no skipping steps in the procedure.

Or am I using the term incorrectly? Is red tape too much procedure?

*Would it be different if they were opposite genders? In that kind of situation, I would have very different reactions being in either side. There would most likely be sexual (is that a first use of that word? in five years of this journal?) undertones if I were to allow myself to be the underling.

Session 2191 means tolerance for being trampled upon is very low. Class dismissed.
