2008-07-01 4:50 PM A/P: Teaching Is More of A Vocation for Some Than For Others Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. The following are what I wrote on the board of my Graphics One class earlier, (when Ephraim was late again, giving him a total of 3.5 absences now – 3 more, or 6 late instances - to go) just to specify to the students the points that will give them a high or perfect grade in the succeeding plates if followed correctly: Proper 1 centimeter per space dimensions Maximum Scaling Projection Lines Erasing Guidelines Maintaining Margins Proper Lettering On Time Submission Having Own Equipment So now there is an official list to consult as to why he has low grades in his plates. Earlier, having given him a plate to share with only three other students, all of whom are freshmen that he couldn’t consult about his plate, he stayed in the first row with his plate, every once in a while sighing loudly or even muttering profanity. I didn’t mind him. If I was supposed to become helpful all of a sudden even if he didn’t ask for my help explicitly that would be so out of character for me. @@ It was only this term when I became part of the staff manual revision committee that I realized how much more strict the operating guidelines are for the grade school and high school teachers and the staff compared to the college teachers. If we were to become as strict there, after all, as the others, considering how much more lax the requirements are in other colleges, no one would be interested in teaching here regardless of the relatively higher pay scale. I understand though that for people building the values of very impressionable, the guidelines to be followed must be more stringent to be assured that those taking care of their children’s welfare aren’t just anyone off the street. Okay, I’m not justifying it, but that’s the only reason I could think of so far why things are the way they are. It was just surprising when some rules of bureaucracy were being enumerated as to how to file for absence or substitution that a lot of those weren’t enforced in the college. Session 2237 is very lucky after all. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
