Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. The freshmen elections last Friday could not be counted on as a complete success. There was failure of elections in two of the four schools (including one for which one candidate was disqualified during the election period due to a dress code violation - the "any disciplinary record" part of the rules) which is very disappointing considering we're talking about enjoining the freshmen, who for the most part have the same classes, to vote. And in one of the schools for which there were fifty percent plus one votes, there was still a tie between the two nominees. This, of course, begs for an extension, but I'd rather they not announce it yet, otherwise the two candidates running might start a coercion campaign among the few who have not voted, just so they could get ahead. It's partly due to the election commission changing the schedule at the last minute, and partly due to the lack of campaigning on the part of the political parties. In fact, one of the parties had no posters whatsoever during the campaign period. @@ In other student activities news, apparently, the badminton tournament for the foundation week is not pushing through anymore. And what's even worse than cancelling the whole thing is not even telling the faculty involved about it, in fact just letting the whole thing slide out as if it were no big deal. The students have to learn that something like that just can't be swept under the carpet without any consequence to their reputation. It also seems that since the people assigned with the publicity of the event were the slowest moving, that maybe those people aren't ready yet for something like this. They need a primer on what constitutes a successful event in terms of preparation. Session 2261 needs to learn about lead time to informing the public, feasibility etc. Class dismissed.
